Recently, I signed up to take a professional development class that specializes in conflict at work. During the first week of class we took the DISC assessment. For those of you who are not aware of what the DISC assessment is, it utilizes a method for understanding behavior, temperament, and personality. It provides a comprehensive overview of the way people think, act, and interact. Not only does the DISC assessment help identify the way you see things, but it also has in-depth information on the way other personalities see things and provides an understanding on how others interpret things.

After reviewing the four styles of personalities that make up DISC, what personality best describes you? What personality best describes your manager, co-workers, clients, or candidates? Understanding not only your personality but the other three is key to effectively working with others. It will not be easy to understand each personality in one sitting or conversation, but it is an important step to making your job and life easier and more productive.
Whether you use DISC for sales, team work, or just to understand yourself better, it is an effective tool to use in the sales environment.
• It helps increase your self-knowledge and helps you figure out how to respond to conflict and what motivates you.
• It helps minimize team conflict.
• It helps your sales skills by knowing your clients’ personalities and responding to their styles.
• It helps you understand the priorities of employees and team members.
