This time of year everyone is more worried about how their bracket is doing and what teams were left out of the tournament than their work. Take a look around – how many of your co-workers are taking time off to watch the games? Or better yet, watching the games on their computer or phone while at work? If you took the time to look you will realize just how much time is being spent on this instead of work. If you have been trying to get a raise or a promotion, now is the time to stand out and make an impression on your manager.
When others are caught up with basketball, step up and volunteer for that extra work load. If your office is short staffed, stand up and show your leadership skills. Is there a project that needs a little extra work? This is your time to shine while others are asleep at the wheel. Ask your co-workers what you can help with while they are out of the office. This will show your manager you are a team player and are willing to step up to the plate, even when you’re not expected to.
Stepping up while others are stepping back is a great way to show your value to your organization. Take this time to make the leap from a mid-major player to a power 5 player in your office. Show your manager and your team just how valuable you are!
