As the year is coming to an end that means it’s time to start thinking about those New Year’s Resolutions! We all know how well those work out.
Fact: Less than 10% of people actually follow through with their New Year’s Resolutions. 80% of people fail by February!
Making a list can work for some people, but if you’re not checking things off, then maybe you should reevaluate your approach. A great way to track your progress and hold yourself accountable is by conducting your own annual performance review. We get these at work all the time, right? So, why not do one on yourself?
Here are some tips and questions to ask yourself when conducting your annual review. These can work for either your career goals or for personal growth.
Tips
- Break it down into quarterly mini reviews or small/big goals and readjust if you need to.
- Share them with someone who you know will help keep you accountable.
- Celebrate your accomplishments and learn from the failures!
- Keep a journal or spreadsheet of your goals and progress.
Questions
- What are 3-5 accomplishments I am most proud of this year?
- What was a mistake I’ve made this year and what did I learn so it doesn’t happen again?
- What are some habits I need to break?
- What are my biggest strengths?
- What are some things I’d like to improve?
- Where would I like to see myself in the next year?
- What am I doing now to get to that spot?
- Who can help me achieve these goals? (Seek out a mentor or a friend for help!)
Each year can bring you a fresh beginning but it’s up to you to be prepared for it!
